Abstract

The interaction between Ir(CO)Cl(PPh3)2 ( further abreviated as Irk) and Hg(ClO4)2 or Hg(DMSO)6(ClO4)2 leads to a consecutive formation of complexes of the type [(Irk)nHg](ClO4)2 (n = 1, 2, 3) and [(Irk)3Hg(ClO4)x](ClO4)2-x depending on the Irk : Hg2+ ratio. In presence of metalic mercury a further complex with the stoichiometry [(Irk)4Hg](ClO4)2 was identified. The Vasca complex Ir(CO)Cl(PPh3)2 acts as a ligand also towards further metal ions, such as Cu2+ and Fe3+, forming complexes with the stoichiometry (Irk)CuCl2 and (Irk)2FeCl3, respectively. Spectroscopic and polarographic characterization of these complexes is given.
