Abstract
The IR absorption (4 000-200 cm-1) and Raman spectra (800-100 cm-1, He-Ne laser) of solid [(MeCN)2PtCl2]-d0 and -d6 complexes, prepared under the same conditions, were measured. With d6-species, a single IR band at 2 331 cm-1 for the fundamental CN stretching frequency was found instead of a multiplet typical for d0-species. Such multiplet has been usually taken as an indirect evidence of a cis-configuration of the ligands around the Pt atom. The vibrational spectra of the d6-species do not corroborate proposals of either cis- or trans-configuration.
