Abstract
Cyclocondensation of 3-amino-3-(4-biphenylyl)acrylonitrile (Ie) with benzaldehydes p-RC6H4.CHO, 2-furaldehyde and acetone produces 1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives IIa-IIj, III, and IV. 4-Cyanobiphenyl (Id) has been prepared and transformed into nitrile Ie by action of sodium powder and acetonitrile. Relation between structure and spectral properties of the dihydro derivatives prepared is discussed.
