Lead tetraacetate oxidation of 3β-acetoxy-B-homo-5α-cholestan-7aβ-ol

Abstract
Oxidation of the alcohol I with lead tetraacetate afforded low yields of the 7aβ,19-epoxide IIand an aldehyde which represented the main product. The structure of this aldehyde as th-3β-acetoxy-7a,8-seco-B-homo-5α-cholest-9(11)-en-7a-one (III) has now been established by chemical and spectral means.
