Abstract

Complexes of divalent mercury with diphenylphosphineacetic acid (HA) of the composition HgX2(HA)2, HgX2(HA), HgX(A) (HA), HgA2 and Na2HgA4 (X = Cl, Br, I) were synthesized and characterized by means of spectroscopic and further techniques in the solid state and in solution. The coordination environment of mercury is constituted by halides and/or phosphine ligands in tetrahedral arrangement. HA acts as a monodentate P-donor, the A- anion either as a monodentate P-donor (in Na2HgA4) or as a chelating P,O-donot (in the remaining cases).
